If I asked you to describe your ideal women's leadership model, what would come to mind?

🔍 If I asked you to describe your ideal women's leadership model, what would come to mind? Do you picture specific traits, behaviors, or examples? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments - let's collectively challenge and deconstruct the myths surrounding women in leadership

!✅ I just watched the replay of this very highly recommended INSEAD Lifelong Learning / INSEAD Executive Education's webinar on this topic "Women Leaders Development: Debunking the Myths" animated by Alex MacDougald, featuring Svenja Rüger&Frédérique Arlaux.Very interesting replay ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eYwSneZX

💡 My take-away is three major obstacles identified:
1️⃣ The masculine prototype of leadership: Unconsciously, we associate leadership with traditionally masculine characteristics. This mental representation influences our evaluations and decisions during promotions or even in simple professional interactions. It's highly important to be aware of those biais while leading assessments & recrutements processes. So ‘increasing’ the number of women in organisations is not an efficient solution.
2️⃣ Disqualifying stereotypes: one example among others, women are often perceived as empathetic and caring (essential qualities!), but paradoxically considered less capable of tough negotiations or making difficult decisions. Even if you fix the unconscious bias, it's not enough.
3️⃣ Does Meritocracy means the best talents will be awarded ? No. Women's path to leadership is often hindered by invisible obstacles that disrupt the meritocratic system, limiting their progress despite their skills.

🔑 Action possible paths:
1️⃣ Building truly inclusive cultures is more efficient than act on "number of women leaders in the organisation."
2️⃣ Rethinking our relationship with failure.
3️⃣ Broadening our conception of leadership and success, being aware of our inherited bias. This isn't a problem that can be solved quickly, but one that requires constant, conscious and global works.

💡 I am an executive coach and I have been working on this gender-equality topic since 4 years now, with a high focus on maternity transition and its impact on women careers. If you are dealing with those questions of women's leadership and supporting professional transitions, take a free appointment on my profile. I will be pleased to discuss with your or your organisation of all kind of individual coaching and/or group worshops/atelier on those very important topics.

Every week, I publish some posts on this women leadership's concerns.
